Greg Angus Presents: Song from the Big Top

We asked artist Greg Angus about his upcoming show and their body of work.
ArtHubs Interviewer: Tell us about your upcoming exhibition.
Greg Angus:
The large format paintings are made with wax and oil paint on wooden panel, layered to build specific colour sequences in order to achieve the correct frequency for the base of the painting. The composition is drawn onto the base panel, negative areas are removed allowing for a second, multiple layering of colour. Different from the first layer, this one is based on the quality of energy needed within the painting. The movement of the wax into the cracks and valleys leaves a more complex surface marking the beginning of the final stage. Scrapers, chisels and knives are used to reveal the overall skeleton of the painting. This delicate excavation is repeated over days and weeks. It is a painstaking, intuitive process that demands absolute concentration and a complete letting go.
